Can A Porsche Cayenne Beat A Tesla Model X In A Tug Of War?

There has been a big battle heating up between the Porsche fanatics and the Tesla fanatics lately, largely fueled by the Taycan, but how do other Tesla/Porsche matchups fare? The folks over at TFL Car decided to do a little tug of war between the Model X and the Cayenne Turbo on icy surfaces. The main goal here was just to have fun, but maybe do some unreliable science experiments in the process. Obviously there are way too many variables here to say definitively one is better than the other, but why not try?

So, as they state in the video, the Cayenne is wearing nicer tires for working in snow and ice, which is a huge advantage, while the Tesla weighs a few hundred pounds more than the chunky Porsche, and has a more immediate supply of torque thanks to its electric motors. So hook them up and see who wins! Well, the first round is a pretty obvious tie with maybe the slightest of advantages going to the Porsche. The second try, with the Cayenne moved to off-road mode to activate its locking differentials, however, is another story.

Then, in comes a Ford F250 with a significant weight advantage to show up both of these mall haulers. When you’re running a tug of war, you really don’t want your tires to break traction, so weight and good tires allow cars with lots of torque to put it down to the ground. If you’re ever in a situation you need to win a tug of war, try to maximize your traction and you’ll definitely come out winning.

Did this video actually teach us anything? Well, not really. If the Tesla had been fitted with more aggressive tires it might have fared better. If the battle had happened on dry pavement, any number of scenarios could have occurred. But it was 10 minutes of good times with cars, and that’s what matters.
