We all know that Porsche isn’t one to rest on their laurels, and with the Cayman GT4 having just launched a few weeks ago, there are already rumblings of a new ‘GT’ model. Apparently Porsche has applied for the trademark of the name “GT5” in Germany, and are unlikely to have that application turned down. The question on everyone’s lips; What could the GT division possibly be cooking up? Something cheeky, I’m sure.
There’s been a GT1, there’s been a GT2, we currently have the fifth GT3 iteration, and as of this year, there is a GT4. All of the bases are pretty well covered by the GT division, aren’t they? All of the sports car platforms have their own hardcore version. So what’s a GT5 going to be?
Some rumors are saying that it’ll be a new bespoke model specifically for this name, perhaps something smaller and lighter and more track focused than a Cayman. Something the size of a Lotus Elise or an Alfa 4C, perhaps? Others are saying that it’s going to be a quasi-race lightweight version of the Panamera with insane power (which we think is outside the realm of possibility as putting the GT moniker on anything other than a two-door sports car truly could cause “brand dilution”). More restrained minds have decided it’ll be a Boxster Spyder with the Cayman GT4’s suspension and aggressive manner. While most of us here at FLATSIXES.com simply think Porsche likes to keep their option opens and having the GT5 trademark does just that. At this point, it’s all speculation, but Porsche has been known to throw a few curve balls.

It would be great if Porsche came out with a smaller, lighter two door along the lines of the Lotus or Alfa and, although they do occasionally throw a curve ball, it will, more than likely, be a 911 iteration.
