Video: Chris Harris Drives The New 911 Turbo

I’d like to start by making it known that it is a shame Chris Harris’ stuff has been moved from YouTube to a native video player on the Top Gear website. Mostly because this has made it so much harder for me to become aware of his awesome videos when they come out. This particular video was released last month, and I wouldn’t have known about it if I hadn’t made it a point to check for new Chris Harris content on their site. Previously, it was easy for me to subscribe to Chris’ channel and I’d get a notification when he released new videos. I miss that. Hopefully Top Gear will get this stuff up on YouTube eventually, because it’s worth displaying there.

In any event, Porsche invited a few people to South Africa to test out the new 911 Turbo at the newly renovated Kyalami track. This video is the result of that trip, and Harris seems to be enjoying himself behind the wheel of the big-power 911. He goes on to call the Turbo ‘somewhat of an enigma’, which does make sense with his following argument. Cameraman Neil makes a great display of the Lava Orange beauty, and Chris does what he does best, flinging the car around the track with all four wheels scrabbling for grip. He calls the 991.2 Turbo a bit “cold”, but then goes on to call it “the best all around sports car on sale”, which seems pretty high praise to me! • I must be the only person on Earth who finds Chris Harris insufferable. I honestly have no idea what I'm supposed to glean from watching an endless series of drifts.

    • No, I don't think you're alone. With that said, the drifting brings in the viewers/eyeballs. What I've always liked about Chris is his ability to break down how the car feels and handles in a way that mostly anyone can understand and do so in an entertaining fashion. So, in other words, I try to listen to what he's saying, vs. focusing on all the fast cuts and constant drifting...

  • I wonder what the manufacturer's think when he brings back a demonstrator with no rubber left on it what so ever? I always thought the fast way around a track was to drive the bloody car in a precise manor, and not be throwing the rear end out in a drift. But, then what the hell do I know?

    • I'm fairly certain, at this point, they know what to expect from Chris and company. I would expect, the number of eyeballs and views for the video more than make up for the wear and tear to the car...
