The last time I saw, or heard, a Porsche 911 GT1 on the track was just about two years ago when Porsche invited us to Barber Motorport Park in Birmingham for the final leg of the “Spirited Escape Road Trip” with the new Boxster. At the time, it seemed like Porsche was filming a new commercial for the Boxster due to all the historic Porsche’s present, including a GT1. We were fortunate enough to spend some time with the GT1 before it started doing laps, but we were never able to drive it.
The video below comes courtesy of the EVOTV YouTube channel. evo Magazine’s Henry Catchpole was able to drive a Porsche 911 GT1 straßenversion at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone. While he doesn’t really get to put the GT1 through its paces what he does do is a good job of explaining and describing what makes the GT1 so incredible. The GT1 is a Porsche that most will never get to experience so the video below may just be the closest many of us will ever get.
