“The R Gruppe is a great group of very, very sick people who enjoy their Porsches.”
You know when a member of your Porsche club describes the club in such a way, it’s going to be an enjoyable club to belong to, assuming you’re ever asked to join. This band of self professed ‘misfits’ is absolutely obsessed with their 911s, and are dedicated to the Porsche Sports Purpose aesthetic.

The R Gruppe Treffen
The annual R Gruppe Treffen is the national gathering for these Porsche nerds to get together and compare notes, bench race, and generally be cool together. Each car is specially assembled to the owner’s individual tastes. Some cars have ducktails, some have 911R tail lights, some have ST flares, but each one of them is endowed with a bit of ‘Sports Purpose’ DNA.
These 911s are ‘special snowflakes’ in the world of Porsche. None of them have remained stock, and none of them are built for anything other than driving a bit quickly. It’s a passion for the Porsche driving experience that keeps these Porsche owners coming back to R Gruppe Treffen every year.
These are Porsche owners that aren’t afraid to get a few bugs on the windshield, to get a few rock chips, to rack up the miles. They love their Porsches, and they aren’t afraid to shout it from the rooftops. Watch the video and see for yourself.

I've tried to follow the R Grouppe for a number of years. I've never felt completely comfortable with PCA. I've had my 74 911 since 1976 albeit a section from 1986-2000 when I sold it. I bought it back in 2000 and have been rebuilding everything mechanical since then. I've had the engine built to RS specs but with carbs rather than injection. I love this car but drive it on the street only these days and tinker with it regularly. If I were on the west coast, I'd love to be in the R Grouppe but someone told me that they only allow cars before 1974. This puzzles me but I guess there's a good reason.
I really enjoyed the video and envy the obvious friendships they have cultivated. Congrats to those guys and I hope they keep on driving. These cars were made to use; not sit in a museum (garage).
Cheers to the R Grouppe
May 2016,I heard from a friend that there were porsches at a hotel in Palm Desert Ca. I live in the area,so I got in my 66 911 sunroof coupe (not stock, 69-S spec. engine, american mags etc.) and went to check it out,to my great surprise I found others with modified 911's ! It was fantastic, some wonderful cars and people,we were invited back for dinner (my friends were in a 63 356-b coupe) great conversation, cars and dinner.I wanted to thank the R gruppe for making us feel welcome! Thank you!!, Bob Heiman. (I also have a 63-356 racecar which I raced for 12 years)
