For a while now I was trying to figure out how to work Steve McQueen and Le Mans into another post. Now all of a sudden I have two great reasons.
First, in a recent article on Examiner.com Jim Cherry reports that Brad Pitt is about to sign on to play Steve McQueen in the upcoming biopic picture based on Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel. According to the article, producers Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters purchased the rights to Marshal Terral’s tell all and plan to begin shooting this fall. I’m not sure if there is any truth to the rumor, but I like the casting and I like the idea of a movie about McQueen even more (especially if it means lots of great racing footage). If you haven’t watched Le Mans in a while, here’s a scene from the movie to get the fuel racing through your veins.
French Kiss of Death
Second, I just heard from Bentley publishers that they’re sending me a copy of French Kiss of Death with a copy of Making of Le Mans DVD. As this has been around for a while, have any of you read this? What did you think? How was the DVD? I can’t wait to get it. Once I’ve gone through it and watched the DVD I’ll write a review for you.

Brad Pitt?? No way as Steve McQueen!!!! Brad Pitt is a fine actor but NOT for this role.
Without question, the part should be played by Daniel Craig who is almost a look alike - I just watched Casino Royale on TV last night - he also has all the characteristics of Steve McQueen. Daniel Craig is the only actor for the role!!
@Chux,
Never thought of Daniel Craig. I agree he would be a much better choice. It will be interesting following this story to see if the movie is even made, let alone who plays the lead. ;-)
Thanks for sharing this Le Mans clip.
You're very welcome!
Seeing as Brad Pitt is the same age that McQueen was when he died (50), how could Pitt (or Daniel Craig for that matter) play him as a huge star in his 30s (and a young actor before that)?
Mark,
A little Hollywood magic, maybe??
I have a copy of French Kiss with Death in my bookcase. Have read it cover to cover twice - It's like a movie you see twice - you pick up little bits you missed the first time. I was lucky enough to meet Vic Elsford at an event at the Simeone Gallery in Philadelphia and he autographed my copy. As to Brad playing Steve - nope. He's more suited to paying Redford - see Spy Games - they could be father and son. I agree with Mark Spiegel however - a younger actor would be best.
