Does this Porsche make me look fat?

Don’t worry, chances are it doesn’t. It might even makes you feel better about yourself. However, according to an article on the Time web-site, car makers such as Mercedes, BMW and Porsche are planning new features to accommodate “obese” drivers. The author highlights overall expanding seat sizes, Mercedes’ use of strengthened door handles (presumably to help heavier drivers get themselves out), BMW’s “Plump my Ride” memo and Porsche’s addition of steering wheels and columns that rise up and out of the way of your own spare tire.

This picture has nothing to do with this story other than it’s going through the McDonald’s drive through and it’s a fantastic shot…

Personally, I think it’s a bit of a reach to put Porsche into this category of “catering to the obese”. My understanding of Porsche’s power steering columns is that they can/will be found on the Panamera and Cayenne (a standard feature found on most other luxury sedans and SUVs). None the less, it’s an interesting concept, and even more interesting to see how car manufacturers, and Porsche, are marketing to the growing masses (bad pun intended).
