Filling Your Dream Garage

We were talking with friends the other day and the following hypothetical question was asked, “If you had an unlimited budget but space for only five (5) Porsches, which five Porsches would you buy?”

After discussing it for a few minutes, we decided that any Porsche could be included, even if there was no way it would ever be put up for sale. This is a hypothetical exercise after all.

It’s an easy question to answer, right? Not for us. We started right out and before we knew it, we had filled the garage and there were other cars we still wanted. What to do, what to do? You can’t build a bigger garage, you can’t swap out cars, this is a one time opportunity so you have to take you time and fill your garage accordingly. Do you want to drive these cars or just stare at them? Are you a racer, or do you want daily drivers?

Eventually we were able to distill things down and come up with a good mix that fits our taste. Here’s how we would fill the garage at 993C4S. How would you fill yours?

1948 Gmund No. 1

1973 Porsche 911 S

917/20 Pink Pig

2008 Porsche 997 Turbo Cabriolet

Our dream garage might not match yours, but here is our reasoning behind the choices.

  1. Gmund: For the history as this started it all
  2. 911 S: For the design and driveability
  3. 917/20: For the paint-job and really, really fast DE events
  4. Ruf CTR Yellowbird: Top speed of 211mph and street legal
  5. New 997 Turbo Cabriolet: Direct Injection + PDK = Daily driver

Now it’s your turn. Everyone has different tastes, and we think you’ll find it a challenging exercise. Take some time, remember anything Porsche goes and your budget is unlimited but you can only choose FIVE. Let us know how you would fill your dream garage.

  • Paul,

Great list. I would have gone for a 904 too, but I wanted more daily drivers, then racers.

As for winning, YES. Expect delivery on these cars within the next week or so. What colors would you like? ;-)

  • Here it goes:
    1) 1955 Speedster
    2) 1964 904
    3) 1970 917K
    4) 1973 Carrera RS
    5) 1987 959
    So how'd I do? Did I win?

  • Pretty much what I have now:

'97 C4S aerokit car that is almost completely fully optioned
    '93 RS America
    '95 993RS 3.8 (clone)
'67 910 (which I don't really own, but can use whenever)
and this '94 cab I picked up today for $8500.

    Not picky, just realistic.

Now if I were to "upgrade"

    993 GT2
    Some 935K3 or K4
    '94 Speedster
'70 or '71 S (just love the high compression, small displacement engines v. the 2.4 slug motors)
And, what the hell, an RS Spyder which I probably wouldn't be able to drive faster than my Radical SR3!

  • Dauer Porsche 962 LM Road Legal

1988 Gemballa Avalanche Flatnose (RUF engined)

    Kremer Porsche 935 K3

    1989 911 Turbo-bodied Speedster 930 in Silver

    2005 911 (996) Carrera 4S Coupe

  • 964RS
    924 Carrera GT
    1974 Carrera
    996 GT3
    356A

All in the oddest factory color available at the time. Out right speed is over rated. Give me something that has some character and style.

  • @Kevin,

Good point(s) regarding speed and character. I think you get a good combination of both with a Ruf Yellowbird and a Gulf Liveried 917. Now for real character, you could opt for the 917 Pink Pig!!

  • Well, it's always so hard to decide..I'll try!
    1) 356 PRE-A
    2) 550
    3) 911 2.7 RS
    4) 930- 3.3 ( 4 gears )
    5) GT2 ( 993 )

Regards from Milan ( Italy )!
    Manuel
