Most Porsche owners are familiar with their car’s central locking system and its various settings. However, a thief, especially not the brightest of thieves might not be as familiar. According to police in Cologne, Germany, a 50 year old man broke into a Porsche Cayenne but was unable to complete his heist after the central locking system activated and he was unable to escape the Porsche.
Nearby pedestrians noticed the trapped thief and called police after noticing that the “man kicked the vehicle’s door in panic…but without success” and was unable to get out. Presumably, he must have entered the car shortly after the owner left the vehicle and before the central locking system automatically activated. More importantly, he wasn’t aware of the procedure for exiting a Cayenne in the case of an automatically locked door:
Thankfully, the thief didn’t think to look in the manual for how to get out.
- Unlock the doors by pressing the central locking button or,
- pull the inside door handle twice to open the door.
Fortunately, just as firefighters were about to break into the car, the owner returned, unlocking it and allowing police to arrest the incompetent burglar for attempted theft from a vehicle.
