It’s an all too familiar temptation. You’re in your Porsche driving one of your favorite roads and it seems like it’s clear sailing. No cars in sight, no place for the police to be hiding, the road is just calling to you to open it up. Happy to oblige, your right foot pushes further toward the floor as the smile on your face grows wider and wider. There’s no doubt, pushing our Porsches, even just a little, is fun. However, it’s often much more dangerous than we think, too.
Take the driver of the 986 series Porsche you see resting in the waters of Vadnais Lake above. According to police, an incompetent unlucky Porsche owner apparently had this suburban straightaway to themselves. Yet somehow still managed to lose control of their Porsche and slide off into the lake? Was speed a factor? The local police sure think so, “It’s a 45 mph zone, and they left 230 feet of skid,” said Sgt. John Eastham, a Ramsey County Sheriff’s office spokesman. “That’s an awful lot of skid,” Eastman added.
Maybe a squirrel ran across the road, maybe a turtle was lumbering back into the water, or maybe the driver just didn’t know what they were doing and lost control. Whatever the cause, you just can’t predict what’s going to happen on public roads so it’s best to keep your go fast time to the track.

Stay on your soapbox. There are too many idiotic drivers on the road, and driving a Porsche does not guarantee against that. Your analysis of the accident is sound - too much speed, too few brain cells.
What sort of speed does 230 feet of skidmarks equate to?
