Porsche 918 Destroyed In Gas Station Fire

Earlier tonight the number of possible Porsche 918 Sypders on the road looks to be reduced by one. According to the limited information we have available at this point, most of it from Twitter and Instagram, the Porsche world lost its first E-hybrid supercar to a fueling fire of unknown origins.

Speculation is rampant about what could have caused the inferno, but at this point it’s simply too soon to tell. We’ll fill you in as soon as we hear more. What is clear is that this one seems to be a total loss. Video below is NSFW due to language.

Let’s all bow are heads in a moment of silence.

UPDATE: The owner and driver of the 918, Canadian Financier Michael Wekerle, was unharmed and able to get safely away before the 918 was lost to the conflagration.

  • Watching the video from a Canadian TV station, states & shows the owner allowing the gas tank to overfill (tank intake in middle behind driver seat), then he takes a windshield squeegee and tries to push the excess gas off the fender, but pushes it on to the hot mid-engine, and the rest is history. Said the guy was laughing about it afterward.

    • Thanks, Doc,

That makes sense. Seems like it had to be an operator error as I can't imagine it would have been a design flaw. Way too much thought went into this for that to happen.

      • Yeah, actually he pushed the gas onto the hot exhaust pipes the come out on top of the engine behind the "cockpit", guess you could maybe say that's a "design flaw"; bet Porsche puts out a Driver's Cautionary Memo over it.
