Here’s everything we saw at Luftgekuhlt 8 through the lens of a Porsche Design film camera

A few weeks ago my buddy Noah Wheeler asked me if he could apply for media credentials to Luftgekuhlt 8 on behalf of FlatSixes. Normally I’d yell “heck no” because I’d be there to experience that particular slice of Porsche heaven myself, but since the last Luftgekuhlt on the west coast, I’ve relocated to far flung Cleveland, Ohio, and couldn’t drag myself away from work to fly out for the event. Because of this, I jumped at the opportunity to bring Noah’s photographic talents to the FlatSixes loyals. To sweeten the pot, he offered to shoot the whole event on old-school film with a ‘Design by F.A. Porsche’ Rollei QZ35W. I mean, how cool is that? Of course I signed the necessary paperwork and got him the necessary photo passes. Not only did Noah get to shoot the entirety of the event on Sunday, but he got access to take pictures during the load-in process on Saturday, which adds a little extra sizzle.

Based on the photographs he delivered here, it was a solid bet to make. The event itself looks like it went off to predictable levels of amazing. I was a little surprised to see Luft return to the Port of Los Angeles for their event this year, as it had previously held an event at that venue in 2017, but it was quite a lot different this time, as the weather actually cooperated. With several years of community development, a whole scad of new rarely-seen cars at the show, and a wide variety of people in attendance, it was always bound to be a good event, anyway. From those who attended, it seems the event has been scaled back a little bit, with a bit more focus on the early days of Luft style. It’s less about having everyone attend, and a more exclusive chill vibe. Having been to Luftgekuhlts 3, 5, and 6, I can say it has been a wild ride to see this event grow, but it was probably out of control and needed to calm down a little.

So anyway, Luft 8 was great. Check out the pictures below for more proof. See you at the next one!
