There Are 7 Generations of the 911. Here’s How Many Porsche Produced of Each!

Last week Porsche announced that the 911 hit a significant milestone when the one-millionth example rolled off the production line. That’s a fairly significant number given how humble the beginnings were for Porsche. Today, the 911 has evolved through seven main generations*:

  • 1963*: The original 911
  • 1973*: G Series
  • 1988*: Typ 964 Series
  • 1993*: Typ 993 Series
  • 1997*: Typ 996 Series
  • 2004*: Typ 997 Series
  • 2011*: Typ 991 Series

Through each generation, and the various iterations of each, the 911 design DNA has remained as true to the original as possible.

If you’ve ever wondered how many 911s of each generation Porsche produced, they put together this handy little video to guide us:

  • The original 911: 111,995 units produced
  • G Series: 198,496 units produced
  • Typ 964 Series: 63,762 units produced
  • Typ 993 Series: 68,881 units produced
  • Typ 996 Series: 175,262 units produced
  • typ 997 Series: 213,004 units produced
  • Typ 991 Series: 168,600 units produced so far

Not surprisingly, despite the ever growing popularity of air-cooled Porsches, there are now more water-cooled 911s (556,866) than there are air-cooled 911s (443,134).
