With the 2016 season only now picking up steam, Porsche is already giving us glimpses of their newest race car, the 2017 911 RSR.
Many of Porsche’s factory drivers spent time behind the wheel and participate in the testing and development.
“It is definitely unusual to put several drivers behind the wheel at a rollout,” says Marco Ujhasi, Overall Project Manager GT Works Motorsport. “But since all of our works drivers are involved in the development of the new car, the ones who could fit it into their schedules came to Weissach and turned a couple of laps.”
We won’t see the new 911 RSR in official action until the 2017 Rolex 24. However, we do expect to learn more about its upgraded features and performance over the coming months as Porsche teases us with tidbits of information.
One rumor already circulating is that the 2017 911 RSR might be the first racing 911 not to feature a rear-engine configuration. Some speculate that’s why we’re not yet seeing any pictures of the rear of the car. What do you think? Would Porsche risk such a huge change in design as moving the engine in their venerable 911?

Best of luck with the tidbits of information! When I worked at Porsche R&D in Weissach, there were always a variety of shrouded vehicles with rectangular khaki tents over them [a la Enterprise commercials] moving about the campus. Any potential curious onlookers were tersely told "Geheim!!!" repeatedly until we looked away and the vehicle had passed us. Technical Information and views of future vehicles were meticulously metered by management. Please keep us informed!!!
The RSR looks so menacing from the front, you would want to get out of its way if behind you.
