I received a nice surprise in the mail last week; my 2009 Rennwish Calendar. If you’re not familiar with Project Rennwish, then take minute to read about it (but only after you’ve finished this post! I’ll put a link below). After flipping through my calendar I started thinking about what other Porsche related charities are out there. I know that most local PCA chapter usually hold fund raisers and support local charities of their choice. But what about individuals? That’s when I met Linda Ledoux on facebook.
Linda’s husband Bruce and good friends David Quinlan and Dan Watkins combined their passion for Porsche Motorsport with a duty to help those less fortunate and formed Guardian Angel Motorsports.
How are they doing this?
With financial support from people who care about children’s health and well-being, they are entering a Porsche 997 Grand-AM Spec GT3 Cup race car in the famous Rolex 24 at Daytona sports car endurance race, the toughest and most demanding twice-around-the-clock challenge in the world. Their goal is to complete the full race, driving 24 hours in a team effort. Total distance: 700 laps, or as much as 2,492 miles.
Why are they doing it?
There are some stories that touch all our lives. We all know someone, a friend or neighbor, whose family has been overwhelmed by illness or injury. These are stories of sick children and their parents, struck suddenly without warning or long-suffering, and we wonder how they get through their days when even the most mundane daily chore is a struggle.
These are stories of mothers who have not left the house in two years, not even for a haircut, because their child is ill and needs constant care. Of parents who are caring for a sick child and trying to hold onto a job in between too-frequent trips to the hospital. Of children, who, because of a debilitating disease or tragic accident will never know the kind of childhood we wish for all children, everywhere.
These are the families that could really use a guardian angel.
How can you help?
Children’s Hospital Boston and Guardian Angel Motorsports have teamed up to provide three easy ways to pledge your support:
- Make a single gift: By using this method to support Guardian Angel MotorSports, you can join us in supporting one of the best causes around, and occupy a virtual “seat” anywhere from the Spectator Stands to the Champion’s Circle.
- Pledge per lap: Our goal is to complete the full race by driving 24 hours using a team effort. If all goes well we will have driven nearly 700 laps.
- Sponsors: How often do you get to put your company’s logo on a super-car, in a big-time race, while supporting one of the world’s best causes? Not everyday, we’d guess. Today however, is one of those days.
I’ve already made my donation and I encourage you to do the same.
