In this, its 11th year, the ‘World Car of the Year’ award celebrates excellence in real-world automotive achievement. The presentation will be held as part of the New York Intentional Auto Show on April 17. Last year we were present to see the Boxster and Cayman named 2013 World Performance Car of the Year. This year Porsche has a total of 3 models nominated amongst 2 categories.
Performance Car Of The Year Finalists
The Porsche 911 GT3 and 911 Turbo nominated in the same category that the Boxster and Cayman won in last year. They will compete against the Alfa Romeo 4C, Audi RS 6 Avant, BMW M6 Gran Coupe, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Ferrari 458 Speciale, Ford Fiesta ST, Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster, Mercedes-Benz A/CLA45 AMG and the Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Luxury Car Of The Year Finalists
In the WCAs newest category, the Porsche Macan was announced as a finalist amongst a host of other SUVs and luxury cars including the Bentley Flying Spur, BMW X5, Cadillac ELR, Cadillac Escalade, Maserati Ghibli, Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Range Rover Sport and the Rolls-Royce Wraith. It will be very interesting to see how the Macan does in this category given the heavy, heavy competition.
We’ll have full results for you from the NYIAS on the morning of the awards.
