Two more reasons for Porsche’s design, PR and marketing teams to celebrate

Since the 918 RSR’s unveiling early Monday morning, news about the hybrid concept has rocketed around the globe in print and online. In fact, for the first time I’m aware of, Porsche was a “trending topic” on Twitter for a little over five hours on Monday. If you don’t understand the significance of that, think of it this way; it’s likely that more people were exposed to the 918 on Twitter than if it were on the front page of every major Sunday newspaper in the country and then some. Twitter’s reach is just that big (You can follow both Porsche on Twitter and PorschePurist). But I digress..

Earlier in the week Porsche won the EyesOn Design Award for Best Concept Vehicle introduced at the Detroit Auto Show. The EyesOn Design Award is judged by top automotive design executives and by academics from transportation design programs. Then, just today, Porsche’s 918 RSR received what is perhaps the Detroit Auto Show’s most respected awards – The 2011 NAIAS AutoWeek Editors’ Choice Award for Best in Show.

According to AutoWeek editor Wes Raynal, “Porsche marked its return to the Detroit Auto Show in a big way with the 918 RSR concept, and—like the 918 Spyder concept revealed last year in Geneva—it was the undisputed star of the show.”

The award by AutoWeek marks the second time Porsche has won the award in less than a year. The 918 Spyder concept (which received the green light for production) won the award in 2010 at Geneva.

I think it’s safe to say we’ll be hearing and reading about the 918 RSR for a long time to come. If you would like to see more of the 918 we posted 77 pictures on the FlatSixes.com Facebook page.
