The Porsche of today would be unrecognizable to the Porsche of the mid-1990s. Back then the company was in dire straits, struggling to sell 10,000 cars annually here in the U.S. market. In 2020, despite a pandemic, Porsche shifted nearly 60,000 new cars and almost 30,000 certified pre-owned models. It did all of this while delivering its first of many electric vehicles, the Taycan sedan, forging new electric motor sport ties in Formula E, and continuing its role as the most advanced and ahead-of-the-curve sports car manufacturer in the world. Porsche has never been afraid of change.
Taking inspiration from our favorite automotive manufacturer over in Stuttgart, FlatSixes is looking to the future as well. We’ve always aimed to be leaders in the Porsche world, kicking off this blog with a simple post way back in 2007 declaring we had begun, triumphantly we jumped into the online universe as 993C4S.com. In those days, this was the personal blog of just one passionate Porsche enthusiast, looking to make his mark on the world. 5209 entries later, this site has grown into what is perhaps the standard record of P-car news for some of you. Over 14 years of serving the community, we have always striven to bring you the earliest, best, and most important news concerning the crested brand. And today we’re taking another step forward.
For all of those years, FlatSixes has remained an independent blog. We’ve had writers and editors and cartoonists and contributors, but the site had always remained under the watchful eye of its progenitor. Today the site steps out from under the shade of protection afforded as an indie publication, blinking into the harsh sunlight of the current state of online media, making the next step toward ever greater things. I am proud to announce that this one-owner site has joined forces with a larger media empire to help us not only survive these strange times in online media, but thrive in the face of adversity.
Since I joined the FlatSixes family — back then it was PorschePurist — in 2013, I’ve been a vocal part of the site and its structure. I have dedicated so much time and effort to bringing you the very best that I can offer, and I’m so excited to be able to continue doing just that with the larger resources and interconnected infrastructure of a growing media group. I took over as the site’s editor in late 2018, and I’d be lying if I said 2020 wasn’t a tough one for us. It was a tough one for all of us. The theme for 2021 is optimism, obviously, so we’re making the right moves to bring us back bigger and better than ever before. It’s time to really pay back the community that has invested so heavily in us over the years.
I, along with the site’s new ownership, have many ideas to revive and revitalize FlatSixes in a way that will work to welcome new Porsche fans into the fold without alienating our traditional Porsche devotees. Much like the brand we cover, we’re looking to build on a history of success by developing new systems to support our future success. For fourteen years we’ve been there for you, bringing you race recaps, auction updates, drive reviews, sales data, and news that you can’t get anywhere else. We’re ramping that up this year, hoping to deliver more posts and more interesting posts than ever before.
We’re joining forces with a new member of our growing family — EVPulse.com — to bring a more informed look at Porsche’s electrified future. The brand has admitted that it believes at least 80 percent of the cars it sells will be electric by 2030, which represents a huge shift for the brand, and we want to be ready. Porsche already offers a wider range of battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles than any other sports car manufacturer, and that’ll only continue to grow with the addition of the upcoming all-electric next-generation Macan, the newly launched Taycan Sport Turismo, and potentially a rumored electric Cayenne.
I will, of course, continue to bring my expertise to the site’s coverage of auction action and motor sport results, as well as the historically significant aspects of Porsche’s contribution to the world of motoring. We will expand our efforts on social media, so you’ll be able to find FlatSixes content more easily and share it to all of your friends and family. We’ll have a more visible and engaging presence at Porsche events, perhaps even hosting a few of our own in the future. We’ll actually make an effort toward finishing our project cars (no really, I promise…). And we’re extending our efforts to get out and experience the community as much as we can with historic car reviews, buying guides, and interviews with interesting Porsche people — whether you’ve heard of them or not, I can promise they’ll be interesting.
Obviously we owe all of our success up to this point to you, our fans, our readers, our commenters, and our contributors. We hope that you’ll stick with us for many more years as we continue to grow and learn and improve. The vernal equinox has come, spring is here, it is a season of rebirth. Let’s celebrate!

The advent of mostly electric Porsches will produce a huge windfall for owners of air cooled Porsche cars. This will be akin to finding a warehouse with 100 thousand 356 roadsters. It is not too late to collect the flat sixes. They will always be very valuable classics!
