Busy, busy day today in the world of all things Porsche. Rather than bombard your mailbox with multiple emails I thought I would wrap up today’s events in a quick summary and provide links to full-text articles in case you want to dig deeper into any or all of the subjects.
Porsche to post $1 Billion in operating profit
Despite all the recent hype that might suggest otherwise, Porsche plans on posting an operating profit near to $1 Billion. That should be more than enough to pay back VW and carry on. For more details check out Drew Johnson’s post at LeftLaneNews.com.
Porsche’s North American sales drop 29%
On a related but contradictory note, Porsche Cars North America today released their sale performance numbers. Despite a drop of 29% in number of cars delivered during the month of May, Porsche indicated that “sales have climbed sequentially” in each month since January. Panamera to sell 20,000 units
Porsche still expects to sell 20,000 units of their new Panamera despite the tough economy. “Orders are very pleasing,” said Michael Macht, the management board member responsible for production. New Production and Logistic Systems at Porsche’s Leipzig Plant
In order to sell those 20,000 Panameras and do so in a manner that proves the most efficient, Porsche has invested substantially in their plant in Leipzig. Pouring more 150 million Euros EUR 150 million in their new 25,000 m² assembly hall, Porsche can produce up to 90 Panameras per day along with an untold number of Cayenes. Porsche 911s Tagged with Graffiti Art
It seems that there is no end to the way people can express themselves when it comes to art and Porsche. Yesterday we featured a Porsche made out of Legos. Today, some of New York’s top graffiti artist had the chance to showcase their talent on some Porsche 911 hoods in a benefit for charity. Rolex Grand-Am at Watkins Glen
Let’s not forget that this weekend is the Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen. Continuing the tradition of endurance sports car racing at Watkins Glen International 3.4-mile, 11-turn “long” circuit, Porsche’s successes at the Glen are just as historic as the track itself.
- Hurley Haywood scored his first class win at the Glen in 1969
- Roger Penske and Mark Donohue won Can-Am races there in the ’70s in a Porsche 917
- Porsche introduced its first turbocharged 911 race car (the Martini Porsche 930) at the Glen in 1974

Aston Martin V12 Vantage vs. Porsche GT2
Last, but definitely not least, TopSpeed.com reviewed the Aston Martin V12 Vantage vs. the Porsche GT2. Truth be told, it’s really a review of the Aston, but they do race it against the Porsche at the end. 512hp on the Vantage, you’ll have to watch the video to see the outcome.
Porsche Barn Find
Okay, okay, one more thing. I told you there was a lot going on. Ryan, over at PorschePerfect.com just posted some never before seen pictures on a Porsche barn find of immense proportions. Some of you may remember the article from Total911 Magazine by Kevin Gosselin of Hunt for 901 fame.
