The endless stream of Porsche 911 variants continues and one of the upcoming additions is the Sport Classic. One of the giveaways that this is a Sport Classic is the ducktail spoiler, which was also found in the 997-generation car, the first to offer this variant built by Porsche Exclusive. That design cue pays tribute to the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, which also had a ducktail spoiler, meaning you won’t mistake it for anything else. A closer look shows wider front and rear fenders, likely to accommodate meatier tires. The double-bubble roof appears to have remained too, as it should because the last one also had it.
A video posted by Automotive Mike on YouTube shows that the new Sport Classic appears to follow the same formula as its predecessor, at least in terms of design. As the prototype runs hard through the Nürburgring, the engine note seems to hint that this could use a turbocharged engine. The 997 generation was based on the rear-drive Carrera S but had more power and it’s likely the new car will follow the same route. However, we won’t be surprised if Porsche takes things up a notch and nabs the 4.0-liter screamer from the 911 GT3.
The previous generation Porsche 911 Sport Classic was limited to 250 cars. It featured a naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six with 408 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque routed exclusively through a six-speed manual transmission. Other go-fast goodies include carbon-ceramic brakes, PASM sport suspension that’s 20 mm (0.7 inches) lower than the standard car, a mechanical rear differential, and black 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the 911 Sport Classic got a brown interior featuring woven leather combined with yarn for the adaptive sport seats.
