The 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport has emerged as a significant competitor in the expanding GT4 racing segment. This model has successfully participated in over 550 races in the past year, achieving 19 overall victories, 80 class wins, and securing 11 championship titles. Its mid-engine configuration allows it to compete effectively across all five continents.

The 2025 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season began positively for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, with a second-place finish at Daytona. Drivers Jan Heylen and Luca Mars, representing Team RS1, narrowly missed first place, finishing just 0.364 seconds behind after a four-hour race. The vehicle, producing 368 kW (500 PS), has established a strong presence in North American motorsports. In 2024, Porsche customer teams won titles in various classes of the Pirelli GT4 America series and the GT4 championship in the GT America Powered by AWS series.

Volker Holzmeyer, President and CEO of Porsche Motorsport North America, stated, “Motorsport is and will always be at the core of Porsche’s brand identity. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is proof of this: it is the most successful GT4 race car we have built to date.” He emphasized the model’s versatility and accessibility for drivers and teams, supporting competition across various racing formats.

Since its introduction in the 2022 season, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport has consistently performed well in both sprint and endurance races globally. It has been utilized by national GT4 champions in countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Australia, and Thailand. Notably, W&S Motorsport dominated the 2024 ADAC GT4 Germany series, a prestigious championship within the DTM framework.

Michael Dreiser, Director of Sales at Porsche Motorsport, remarked, “The GT4 segment has become a key area for Porsche Motorsport. With the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, we have developed an outstanding race car.” He highlighted its success across numerous series and its growing popularity in one-make series and track day events.

The 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is also making strides in Porsche’s one-make series, with six Porsche Sports Cups featuring dedicated GT4 series in 2025. It will participate in endurance races in various regions, including the Benelux countries and New Zealand. However, the Nürburgring Endurance Series still features the previous model, the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

Porsche has produced over 1,500 Cayman-based GT4 race cars since the introduction of the Cayman GT4 Clubsport in 2016. The first generation saw the production of 421 units, while the successor launched in 2019 totaled 510 units. The demand for these vehicles is attributed to their relatively low operating costs, combining durable production technology with motorsport components.

Continuing this lineage, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport has been in production since 2022, featuring a 368 kW (500 PS) 4.0-liter flat-six engine derived from the 911 GT3 Cup. This engine offers nearly 18 percent more power than its predecessor, with enhanced performance characteristics and a broader powerband. The vehicle also includes significant chassis improvements, such as two-way adjustable dampers and a high-performance racing brake system.

The use of natural fiber composite (NFC) materials has increased in the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. These materials, including flax-based fibers, are being explored as alternatives to carbon fiber composites. Porsche has a long history of utilizing motorsport as a testing ground for new technologies that eventually find their way onto road vehicles.
