Porsche updated PCM infotainment to make Taycan road trips easier and more

The sixth generation of Porsche Communication Management is here, launching now in the newest 911, Taycan, Cayenne, and Panamera models. The new update provides native Spotify integration, a new interface, upgraded voice assistant, wireless Android Auto, and crucially an update to the Taycan’s charging planner software. It’s a lot of new information available at your fingertips, and the cars will be all the better for it.

Okay, so what’s new with this interface? First, at the suggestion of some of its customers, Porsche has updated the colors of icons on the main screen to make each button easier to recognize at a quick glance. The shorter time you can spend with your eyes diverted from the road ahead, the better!

Speaking of taking your eyes off the road, and speaking of speaking, Porsche has updated the PCM’s Voice Pilot to make vocal commands simpler to communicate. The update includes easier access to news, the car’s operating manual, and in-car streaming music.

Music? Oh yeah, there’s news on that front as well! For the first time ever, Porsche has included native Spotify integration in all of its 911, Taycan, Panamera, and Cayenne models. Spotify Premium account holders (like myself) can link their Porsche ID to the account, and use Spotify as a media source. This is now possible without even having your smartphone with you, it’ll give you instant access to more than 70 million songs and 3.2 million podcasts right at their fingertips.

As someone who recently took a Taycan road trip across the country, the final update is perhaps my favorite! Porsche Charging Planner has finally been updated to prioritize higher speed chargers along your route. Now the planner will give higher weight to chargers 150 kW or faster along your route, to make sure your charging downtime is as quick as possible, and to take full advantage of the Taycan’s industry-leading onboard charger speeds.

Additionally, the Charging Planner now also takes into account the time required to start and end the charging process at the charging station when calculating the total driving time. This ensures your destination time is as accurate as possible to give you the best information available.

All of this is a good thing, if you ask me. PCM was already one of the best infotainment systems out there, so an update to that system that makes it even better is always going to be a good thing. Look forward to getting your update, or look forward to experiencing PCM 6.0 in your new Porsche delivered later this year.
