Porsche has issued a small recall in order to retain the safety of all on-road vehicles at the appropriate level. This recall impacts a tiny number of model year 2018 Macan and Macan S models. Just three (3) units in total according to the paperwork Porsche filed along with the recall notice. If your Macan is affected, you will be contacted by Porsche, and the faulty component (in this case some type of control unit) will be replaced free of charge. It doesn’t appear that this control unit is related to the vehicle’s primary systems, so you shouldn’t be in any imminent danger, or reduced drivability if it does fail or has failed.
Upon further reading, the faulty part is identified as a “gateway control unit” that was improperly soldered. If it were to fail, some of the Macan’s passive safety systems, including driver display alerts may not function properly. There is no indication of exactly what might be included in this failure, but some post-crash safety systems are also included in the fault, which could mean things like air bags, or first responder alert systems. Obviously, getting in an accident is something you want to avoid altogether, but if it does happen, you’ll definitely want all of these systems fully functional.

Summary
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2018 Porsche Macan S and Macan vehicles. These vehicles have a control unit that may fail and prevent safety-related functions such as driver display alerts and possibly impair drivability and post-crash functions.
Remedy
Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected control unit, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche’s number for this recall is AJ05.
