Upcoming Porsche Taycan Turbo GT spied testing

The Taycan lineup is some of the best performing EVs on the planet. That shouldn’t come as a surprise to any of you. But has been a bit surprising, though, is we haven’t seen anything come out of Weissach. At least, not yet. Though that appears to be changing because our spy photographers caught a new Taycan testing. We believe there’s a good chance it will be called the Taycan Turbo GT, and it looks the business.

The Turbo GT, as we’ll refer to it for this post, has a new front bumper with much more aggressive aero and downforce. Out back, the biggest change is the addition of a large, fixed rear wing. Combined, the Turbo GT’s aero should be drastically improved.

Most of the changes we expect, though, will be under the sheet metal. We expect this to be Porsche’s first attempt at a triple motor electric setup putting out 1,000 horsepower. Expect a 0-60 mph time in the 2 second range, and a top speed over 200 mph or more.

Unlike the Tesla Model S Plaid, which will be on of this car’s biggest competitors, the Turbo GT should be able to lap the Nürburgring repeatedly without thermal issues. It should also be able to do it at breakneck speeds. Weissach knows how to engineer sports cars, and while the Taycan is heavier and beefier than something like a Porsche 911, there still a ton of improvements to be made and performance to be squeezed out of the electric architecture.

When will we see it? Who knows? The level of camouflage on this vehicle is relatively limited, which might mean it’s closer to a reveal than we think. It’d be awesome if we could check it out at this year’s LA Auto Show in November. We’ll have to wait and see.
