Porsche Launches Two New Test Programs Allowing Owners To Loan Out Their Cars

Porsche has launched two new ride sharing programs, allowing drivers short-term, on-demand access to Porsche automobiles for a fee. On the East Coast, the company is launching Porsche Drive, an extension of Porsche Passport—the monthly subscription program—that allows for rentals as short as a few hours. On the West Coast, Porsche is partnering with ride rental company Turo to offer Porsche Host, a model allowing Porsche owners to loan out their cars for any length from a single day to a month.

“We want to offer a choice in how people experience the thrill of driving a Porsche,” said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA). “Our market research shows that consumers want options across a spectrum from access to ownership. The Porsche Drive and Porsche Host pilots are exciting, non-traditional ways to let customers choose how they get behind the wheel of a Porsche.”

Porsche Drive

Porsche Passport will be extended to offer short-term rental options through a new program called Porsche Drive. Backed up by the same Clutch Technologies, LLC in charge of the Passport program, Porsche will offer a wide range of new models for shorter terms than a month, allowing Atlanta-based drivers to borrow a car for a few hours to a week.

In the same manner as Porsche Passport, Porsche Drive will include white-glove concierge delivery service. Once requested through the app, the vehicle will be delivered to the client’s desired location in metro Atlanta within two hours. Cars can be borrowed hourly for as short as four hours, and rates are also available for daily or weekly loans. All of Porsche’s model lines are represented in this service.

Prices for Porsche Drive run from $269 (+ taxes and fees) for four hours in a Macan or 718 Cayman or Boxster, to $2,909 (+ taxes and fees) for weekly usage of a 911.

Porsche Host

The Porsche Host program, a partnership with Turo, will launch on October 8th in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Turo already exists in this space, and has been providing international car loans for a few years now, making it the trusted and well known provider in this industry. Unlike the Porsche Drive program, all cars in the Porsche Host program are owned by Turo hosts.

Porsche has partnered with outstanding Turo hosts who have been trained to offer a best-of-the-best five-star Porsche experience with the rental. Porsche Host models will be available to book through the Turo app or website shortly. Cost and availability will be dependent upon the car owners and demand.
