Porsche Design Bluetooth Speaker: 60 Watts of Passion, 911% Enthusiasm.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, my love of Porsche was not at first sight, it was love at first sound! I was 13, it was the early ’80s and an air-cooled 911 was threading its way through my neighborhood. As it passed me, the driver looked over, smiled and grabbed another gear as he accelerated away. The sonorous sounds coming from that muffler was all it took. I was hooked from that moment on. That’s why I was so excited last year when Porsche Design sent us their 911 Soundbar to review. Music from a Porsche exhaust system? What a perfect combination. The only problem was the price. It was simply too expensive for many. Thankfully, this new Porsche Design 911 Speaker fixes that problem.

Unlike the 911 Soundbar which uses the entire muffler and tailpipes from a 911 GT3, the new 911 GT3 speaker is more compacts and makes use of a GT3’s original tailpipe as the main component of its new Bluetooth 911 Speaker.

The high-gloss tailpipe cover comes in an aluminum housing and features:

  • 60-watts of system output
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • apt-X technology for what Porsche says is pure, natural bass and precise tones
  • Voice prompts for ease of operation
  • Maximum sound pressure of 95 dB

Porsche Design won’t have one for us to test until sometime this fall. For now, we’ll take their word for it on the quality of the sound. Available in the U.S. this Fall for $595.00 it’s still a bit more expensive than comparable Bluetooth speakers, but those won’t come with the distinctive look of the 911 GT3 tailpipe. If it sounds as good as we think it will, as a Porsche fans, that’s enough of a difference for me to spend the extra money. We’ll have to wait and see.
