16 Step Paint Correction Instructions for Your Porsche
Larry put together a step by step guide you can print out and follow while restoring the paint on your Porsche. You can download a copy of the PDF directly from AMMOnyc or use the list we’ve typed out for you below.
1. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTION BEFORE YOU GET STARTED:
– a. What is my goal with this car? Clean, Protect, or Restore?
– b. What year is the car, and has it been repainted?
– c. Is the paint soft or hard?
2. Remove the wax or sealants from the surface of the paint. Referred to as “stripping” the paint.
3. Clay the paint to remove any contaminates that remain after the wash.
4. Inspect the paint for visual damage and level of correction needed.
5. Test a small area to determine paints hardness and possible techniques to use on the entire car.
6. Finalize your product, pad selection, pressure, and technique to be used to restore the paint.
7. Use masking tape to protect badges, emblems, rubber, and plastics moldings to minimize any chance of contact.
8. Work product 1 (based on paint test in #5) in a 2 x 2 area until entire car is completed with Dual Action Polisher.
9. Work product 2 in a 2 x 2 area until entire car is completed. If necessary. For example, if your car is new, but you want a perfect shine then only complete step #8 with the Jewelers Polish. However, if the car is in bad shape (like the 356 in the video above) then you could do step #8 with compound, step #9 with Polish and step #10 with Jewelers Polish.
10. Work product 2 in a 2 x 2 area until entire car is completed. If necessary, see above #9.
11. Use a Rotary Polisher at very low speeds with Jewelers Polish to bring out depth and shine from the paint. Also referred to as “jeweling the paint”.
12. Remove masking tape carefully in the “horizontal” direction, not the “vertical” direction.
13. Clean all door, hood, and trunk jambs with AMMO Spit Spray Wax. Use a microfiber cloth and a small detailing brush to agitate dried compound or polish for removal.
14. Add AMMO Skin paint sealant.
15. Add AMMO Creme carnauba wax.
16. Add tire dressing (if desired), vacuum, clean windows, and check over your work prior to going for a drive!
