Video: Why Motor Trend’s Carlos Lago Loves Porsche’s 991 GT3

Carlos Lago is among my favorite YouTube automotive reviewers right now, partly because Motor Trend has his back with quality filming and access to amazing cars, but partly because he is one of the most enthusiastic and energetic people on video. You can tell from just one viewing that he’s genuinely excited to be doing what he’s doing, and he has that undying love for all things automobile. He’s in a pretty enviable position because he gets to drive some of the best cars in the world (he’s driven the 918, McLaren’s P1, and Ferrari’s LaFerrari all this year!). So what car does he continue to love even after he’s driven all of those amazing automobiles?

The answer is clearly Porsche’s lovely 991 GT3.

How much does Carlos love the 991 GT3? Well, he posted a video to his personal YouTube channel that is a full 47 minute dissertation on the car. In today’s fast paced world of online entertainment, 47 minutes is practically an eternity, and it shows just how interesting this car is when the host can not only spend nearly an hour talking about it, but can also entice thousands of people to watch the thing! It is a long video, but its worth a watch, as Carlos goes over the tech of the car, the driving experience, and some general background information. It’s an interesting video to watch for only the biggest Porsche geeks, so don’t expect your layman friends to stick around for the whole thing.

Magazines and online media outlets have been comparing the GT3 to Chevrolet’s Camaro Z28 and Ferrari’s 458 Speciale all year, but to me (and apparently Carlos) there is no comparison. The GT3 has no equal anywhere in the world, and you won’t really get the full understanding until you drive one. Take it from Carlos, the GT3 is not only one of the best Porsches ever built, but one of the best cars period.
