Porsche is now offering a free app to tie-in with their electric models to simplify charging. The new digital platform is designed to integrate with all aspects of the charging process. The service is capable of searching for charging stations and storing data in a central location to handle payment, forgoing multiple logins for different users. Critically, for globetrotting electric Porsche owners, the app is capable of working across multiple countries and a wide array of currencies.
“In addition to fascinating vehicles, building a customer-friendly charging infrastructure is the key to achieving long-term success for electromobility”, says Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board responsible for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. This process is designed to streamline the user experience for electric vehicle owners. This centralized digital platform simplifies the charge process, encouraging users to integrate electrified vehicles into their lives.
The app updates about the location and availability of charging stations, as well as the cost of a charge in real time. At the charging station the driver identifies themselves using either a QR code via the app or a physical “Porsche ID card” which the user receives upon registration. This service is currently available in much of Northern Europe, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Finland. The service is expected to expand to other countries through the end of 2018.
The charging service is currently available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Finland. The service will gradually expand to include other countries from the end of 2018. In Germany, using the Porsche Charging Service costs EUR 2.50 per month. Added to this are the fees for the charging processes, which depend on the operator and the amount of electricity used to charge the vehicle. The app is available on all mobile devices with iOS or Android operating systems and can be downloaded now. The service is in principle open to all drivers of hybrid or electric vehicles; its use is not limited to Porsche vehicles.

So how does the cost for a "fill-up" compare to buying a tank gasoline? Will we find out too late?
Did some quick research and found where two weeks ago, I filled up with 18 gal of Premium for $3.199/gal, totaling $57.50. The on board computer in my Macan usually indicates 390 miles more or less for a full tank, so any idea what this would cost for a full charge of electricity?
Chuck,
Some rough numbers that may give you an idea: Electricity is 12 cents per kWh — the national average — it would cost $3.48 to go 100 miles but that is the cost at home. If you used a charging station the cost ranges between $ 0.39 - 0.79 per kWh.
