It’s odd to think of David Beckham buying a replica of anything. As a Porsche fan he’s in a unique position to buy almost anything he wants. Unfortunately for him, the real Steve McQueen 1969 911S (made famous in the movie Le Mans) sold at auction in 2011 for $1.375MM. However, Lee Mayor Restorations in the UK had a very well done replica available which Beckham purchased for £70,000 (just under $110k at today’s exchange rates).

This particular replica looks to be spot on and a quality build to boot. According to the seller’s web-site, the Porsche is built from a “California shell” that was originally slate gray in color and includes matching numbers engine and gearbox. You can see even more details and pictures on the original listing.

While the buy price may seem a little high to some, it’s a mere drop in the bucket for the world’s best known soccer star. What’s more, short wheel base 911 prices seem to know no bounds and if this 911 wasn’t worth it’s price when he bought it, it is now. Let’s not forget, any Porsche Beckham touches commands serious resale dollars due to celebrity provenance (remember his 911 Turbo S that sold for an astoundingly huge number a couple of years ago, or the 993 he bought for “Posh”).

We’ll keep our eyes peeled for when this comes back on the market. Expect the asking price to be much, much more than what Beckham paid for it!

  • The glaring difference is Steve's 911 had the incredibly bogus U.S. DOT sealed beam' headlights'....if those things could actually be considered useful as a light source on darkened b roads...

  • How in any stretch of the term is this a "replica" of McQueen's 911S. The immediate differences are Headlights, Seats, Steering Wheel, and windscreen wiper setup. McQueen's car also has a sunroof, fog lights, and Air Conditioning.

  • The trims around the wheel openings are missing. I can't see from this angle but doubtful if it has the ultra-rare muffler skirt like Steve's.

    • @Sam,

Based on your comment and Dan's above, we were probably too quick to call this a "replica" and trusted too much in the description from the original seller. It seems to be a replica only in color and spirit... Still a very nice Porsche.

  • And I'm a replica of James Bond, only without the gun, the licence to kill, the car, the suits etc etc

  • And Beckham's a replica of McQueen lol like Richard Hammond and other turnips who are not drug taking smoking drinking woman users like McQuee. Steve was the real deal other celebrities look ridiculous pretending to be him unless there proper rebels
