If you’re anything like me, there’s a good chance you love the movie Le Mans, but you’ve only ever seen it on your home television. As good as home theaters are today, it’s still never seems to be quite as good as a dark and musty theater complete with sticky floors and over priced popcorn. Now, thanks to Porsche you’ll have the chance (if you’ll be anywhere near Hollywood, CA in the next few day). You see, Porsche just announced that they are the exclusive automobile sponsor of the fourth Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Classic Film Festival.
The event, hosted at six of the most historic theater venues in Hollywood, California from April 25 – 28th, celebrates travel in the movies.
“Le Mans is one of the most well-known touchstones of the Porsche brand in cinema and popular culture,” said Detlev von Platen, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Inc. “Our rich motorsport history, coupled with our return to Le Mans in 2014, made this partnership a natural fit.”
On Saturday, April 27, The Chinese 6 Theatres will screen the film, regarded as one of the best racing movies of all time. Prior to the show, Chad McQueen, son of the late Steve McQueen, and former Porsche motorsport drivers Derek Bell and Vic Elford will share stories about the making of the movie with exclusive festival pass holders.
You Can Still Watch at Home
If you’re a Porsche fan and you still haven’t seen Le Mans, you need to. If you can’t get to this showing, pick up a DVD of the movie from Amazon.com and see why it’s thought of as one of the best racing movies of all times.
