Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay This Week: Volume 51

We’ve been compiling the best Porsche models on eBay for almost two years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. In all that time, we’ve published these every other week. Well, enough of you have spoken up that we’re going to try a weekly format, with two of us picking selections, so check back often. We’ve tracked down five more exciting Porsches for you nice people to purchase today, including a nice summer cruiser, a gorgeous custom long-hood, a pretty silver SC, a mid-engine race car, and a woefully under described custom GT3. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 2004 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 4S Cabriolet

It’s officially summer driving season in *most* of the country, and what better way to celebrate than to buy yourself a nice convertible to enjoy the glory of top-down driving. Add in that this one is four-wheel driven, and you can make this your official 3-season driver. Heck, with the right tires, you can make it through the winter in most parts of the country as well. The widebody C4S is a good looking car, and a rare one as well. These cars have reached the bottom of their depreciation curve, and will be heading back up quickly if you ask me. Now is the time to jump into the rarer 996 variants, because you won’t get a second opportunity. This one still only has 38,000 miles, so it has plenty of life left.

2. 1970 Porsche 911T Widebody Custom R-style Build

We just returned from a weekend spent hanging out with the early 911-loving R Gruppe, and without wanting to be presumptuous about them, this car seems as though it would fit in with their crowd perfectly. This car looks like it would be a whole lot of fun, and its just too pretty not to drive it. It would be a crime to deprive the world of this car’s gorgeous paintwork and wide flares. The builder claims they were aiming for ‘something between a Magnus Walker and Singer’, so you be the judge whether they made it work or not. With an 80s Carrera engine punched out to 3.4 liters, this car should have plenty of go to match the show, and the 915 gearbox will be strong enough to hold it all together. Buy this and do some burnouts. You’ll love it.

3. Stunning Silver 1980 Porsche 911 SC Coupe

Little information is given on this car, save for the 130,000 mile odometer reading. I’m not sure exactly what it was about this car that caught my eye, but catch my eye it did. I have long been a holdout against the impact-bumper cars, but lately they’ve been wearing down my defenses. I must admit, this silver job here might have converted me permanently. I would not feel even slightly bad about driving this car every day, it just has so much style. The current bid is around 25K, which seems about right for the car, but the reserve is not yet met. What do you think this is worth?

4. 2011 Porsche Cayman S PDK-Equipped GT2-class Race Car

This car could be seen to be the precursor to the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, though not factory sanctioned. This car started life as a street Cayman S, and was converted into a truly capable mid-engine racing car. The car recently hit the dyno to show off its 351 horses to the rear wheels, which seems pretty impressive to me. Add in a reworked PDK transaxle, and a full boat of suspension work, and you’ve got a recipe for a quick track machine that should be forgiving and easy to drive even for relative newbies. Current bids are only at a smidge over 30K, and that seems like the bargain of the century to me. You couldn’t replicate this kind of work for twice that price, perhaps even more.

5. 2007 Porsche 911 (997) GT3 With RS body kit, carbon roof, and custom paint

The description of this car is inadequate. I wish they’d included more. As it stands, it looks to me that this car started out as a ‘regular’ 997 GT3, and the bodywork was upgraded to GT3 RS specification. The interesting piece, to me, is the addition of a lightweight carbon-fiber roof. Get some weight off of the top of the car, and lower the center of gravity. Combined with sticky tires and some good old-fashioned downforce, and you’ve got a weapon of a car. Take it to a track day, or just bomb around the canyons, but make sure you drive it, whatever you do. This car looks too fun to just sit in a garage somewhere.
