The 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera T Returns To Minimalist Roots

Petrolicious teamed up with Porsche for this video, featuring the guys from California Porsche Restoration, to detail the newly launched Porsche 911 Carrera T and how it connects with the history of the brand. The Dohertys, the folks who own and operate CPR, are extremely passionate about Porsche, and they have seriously credible opinions on the lineage, the connectivity, between the new T and the original 1969-1973 T. The goal with this car was a back-to-basics approach of decreasing weight and upping the enthusiast factor. Based on the conversations had here, it seems to have worked.

The New 911 T

The Carrera T, given a cursory glance at the stats, is essentially a 911 Carrera GTS with the base 911 engine (370 horsepower versus 450) installed behind the rear axle. While we might have liked for Porsche to have taken the weight loss regimen a little more seriously, we thoroughly enjoy the base 911 as it sits, so when you give it wider bodywork, optional rear-steer, and a scad of standard performance driving aids, it can only really get better from there. When we drove the base 911 at launch, we were impressed by the most bare-bones models, and wonder if this might translate well to the wider chassis. We’re huge proponents of handling balance outweighing the power output, and this seems like the right car for our needs.

In any case, the Dohertys seemed to like the 911 Carrera T, so until we get our own hands on one to test, we’ll have to trust them. The visuals and sounds of this video make it well worth your time to watch, so click the big play button in the middle, pop it to full-screen, and pump up the volume.
