Here’s How Magnus Walker Created An “Art Car” The Old Fashioned Way

Everyone loves a good art car, right? But not all of us have the artistic eye to draw it out ourselves and make it happen. There aren’t many 993s in this gorgeous shade of Miami Blau, so it wouldn’t be too smart of Magnus Walker to lay down paint over this all-original beauty. Thankfully these days vinyl wrap has gotten to the point that it can create pretty much any look you want for your Porsche. Since this car first showed up on Instagram in its new livery, I was intrigued. It’s a super cool colorful throwback to the mid-1990s where this Porsche came from to begin with. The angular mixing with the gorgeous curves of the 993 body really works for me. What do you think of it?

I was already interested in what Mr. Walker was hinting at with his Instagram posts, but when this video came across YouTube, I was blown away. I’d figured that he worked with some graphic designer at a vinyl cutting company to create this new look when in fact it was quite the opposite. Instead of doing all of the design in a computer first and laying out out meticulously on the car, the long-haired Porsche aficionado took an appropriately more analog approach to the situation. Armed with a selection of white, yellow, and black sticky tape in various widths, Magnus attacked the car with a flourish of stripes and angles until it had the look he wanted.

Once the car was all taped up, he looked at the thing from as many angles as possible, including above and below. I particularly liked his method of sitting on a rolling stool as a way of viewing the car as a young child might. We all could do to act a little more childish every now and again.

If you want to see more of the process involved in getting this idea from tape vision to vinyl reality, check out the video below, It’s fun!

  • I think Mr Walker spoilt the beautiful 993 with all the tape, i can see the arty point of it, but not on the 993.
