Nothing sounds like a DeMan 4.5-liter Boxster Spyder

Porsche’s Boxster Spyder might be the best sports car I’ve ever driven in stock configuration. It’s just so close to perfection that it doesn’t really feel like it needs anything. The standard 4-liter flat six makes a perfectly usable 414 horsepower and sprints from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. The steering is fantastic, the chassis is so well balanced, and the grip is just forever right there for you. But that wasn’t enough for YouTuber, automotive writer, entrepreneur, and Porsche enthusiast Matt Farah.

By now you probably know Matt’s story with the Boxster Spyder if you’ve been hanging around Porsche forums or Twitter for the last year plus. He ordered the car ages ago, a very special build with Frozen Berry Metallic paint, the Spyder special interior way, and a few special little tweaks to make the car his own. The first time Porsche built this car for him, it burned in an oceanliner fire and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. So Porsche went back to building the car Matt had ordered, only this time the company had discontinued the ability to order Spyders with carbon ceramic brakes.

From the get go, the plan was to have the car delivered to DeMan Motorsports in New York and have the delivery-mile engine and transmission completely rebuilt. The engine was punched out to 4.5 liters and the transmission was re-geared. Now the car makes a whopping 565 horsepower without the aid of turbochargers. After a stop off to see Larry Kosilla at AMMO for a paint correction and film protection, the car was shipped across the country to Los Angeles where it was fitted with a fresh set of HRE wheels. I gotta say, it looks damn good.

When reviewed by Matt and co-host Zack Klapman, the pair declare it to be the perfect sports car. It’s basically a mid-engine GT3 that you can put the top down on. What more could you want? And for the record, I love the color. They might be right. This might be what perfection looks like.
