Porsche Builds a FireTruck to Mark the 500,000th Vehichle off the Production Line in Leipzig

In just 10 short years the production line at Porsche’s plant in Leipzig produced their 500,000th Porsche. To mark the celebration, Porsche chose a white Cayenne S that was converted into a “command vehichle for the Leipzig fire brigade. This isn’t the first Cayenne Porsche emergency vehicle to be produced (and I’m sure it won’t be the last either).

Leipzig will continue to grow as production of the Porsche Macan is scheduled to start at the end of 2013. Porsche planse to develop their Leipzig facility into a self-contained plant with its own body assembly line and paint shop. The total investment is expected to be more than 500 million euro and create at least 1,000 new jobs.

  • Limerock was great, Mosport will be interesting, and I'm really looking forward to Midohio since I'll be there; BUT........I really have nothing good to say about Porsche North America since they decided/refused to help sponsor a Porscheplatz there. I asked PCA and got a polite answer that they had nothing to do with it (baloney since I work the tent at Sebring) and no one in Atlanta would talk about it. Sad, sad development for us Porsche owners!

  • Well, there are more useful versions of a command vehicle (_Kommandowagen [KdoW]_) like the Porsche Cayenne. Although the Porsche KdoW are fast, they don't have so many opportunities like e.g. the BMW X-3 of the Munich FD or the Volkswagen Passat of the Prüm VFD. So I as a volunteer firefighter can say that Leipzig FD did a very big mistake. Porsche isn't that good for such a task.
