Porsche’s New Cayenne Is A Guilty Pleasure For Henry Catchpole

After leaving EVO magazine, Henry Catchpole spent a bit of time at the now seemingly-defunct DriveTribe. He’s now a part of the wildly excellent Carfection YouTube channel (what used to be X-Car). We’re quite happy that Henry has ended up at Carfection, because he’s always counted among our favorite video review specialists. He’s perhaps even gotten better with the move, because his recent videos on the channel have been stunningly beautiful to go along with his traditional informative and entertaining. Hand him the new Cayenne, then, and we’re excited to click on the big red Play button.

Given the opportunity, many Porsche enthusiasts are willing to bag on the Cayenne as being a NARP (Not A Real Porsche). Heck, I’ve been known to do the same on occasion. The fact remains, the Cayenne is among the most technologically advanced, comfortable, and sporty-feeling utility vehicles on the market. While it does share a platform with Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, and now Lamborghini, Porsche was given the ability to make this chassis their own. With things like available rear-wheel steer, launch control, active rear aero, advanced Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control and just shy of 550 horsepower, this Porsche truck, at least in Turbo dressing, certainly puts the Sport in SUV.

Catchpole’s take on this new Cayenne?

Well, it’s essentially the same through the corners as the old Cayenne, which is to say quite good. That said, it’s become quite a lot better in terms of on-road comfort. The last Cayenne was always a bit taut in its drive, ready for action. The new car stays comfortable until you crank it into Sport+ and get down to corner carving business. The steering is slightly more vague, apparently, but it’s no less the Cayenne that tens of thousands of people fall in love with every year.

Be sure to stick around for some sheep herding at the end. “That’s a lot of sheep.”
