Magnus Walker Walks Us Through His Pair of Porsche 930s

One left-hand drive, one right-hand drive. Spiky engines, perfect proportions, and paint schemes that suit these seventies rockets. They also suit the man’s taste. Magnus Walker’s known for his collection of classic Porsches and appreciating all their nuances—patina and all.

Outlaw’s examples haven’t been modified aside from a few changes to the footwork and some choice paintwork. His retro-styled Outlaw 003 wheels measuring 15×8″ and 15×10″ front and rear, respectively, wrapped in thick-sidewalled Hoosiers give these two the period-correct appearance of a contemporary IROC. Copper Brown Metallic and Ice Green Metallic both age a bit better than one might imagine, especially when the interiors show a bit of endearing wear. Clearly, these potent cars have both been used extensively.

The ’75 Turbo sported 270 horsepower and weighed a mere 2,560 pounds. Sent through the long gears of a stronger four-speed gearbox—unlike the five-speeds found in the normally-aspirated contemporary Carreras—keeping the motor howling above the boost threshold of 4,000 rpm could be a challenge. When the 3.0-liter motor transitioned into boost, it was quite abrupt. For that reason, it earned the moniker “Widowmaker,” but in his hands, it doesn’t seem too unwieldy.  Watch as Walker scythes through Los Angeles traffic at a pretty brisk pace:

There’s no melodrama on this spirited cruise through the Los Angeles freeways. Granted, Walker’s had a few decades driving these cars on the circuit, so it’s fair to assume he’s learned to deal with this model’s idiosyncrasies. With a decent understanding of rear-engine dynamics and a laggy turbo engine, this gorgeous green machine just covers ground at a startling rate.
