Porsche Is Celebrating 20 Years In China With This Special Edition 911 Turbo S

Before you get too wound up about how this new special-edition 911 Turbo S won’t be available in the U.S. market, don’t worry even a little bit. Aside from five special throwback colors, some special badges, and a cool 20th anniversary graphic package, this is just a regular 911 Turbo S underneath. It’s just an appearance package. Admittedly that appearance is pretty freakin’ cool.

While Porsche has existed as an automotive manufacturer since 1948, the company wasn’t officially available in the People’s Republic of China until 2001. In just twenty years China has gone from receiving its first Porsche imports to buying more Porsches than any other country in the world. It’s astonishing how vital the Chinese market has been to the brand from Stuttgart’s growth over the last two decades. What better way to commemorate this historic anniversary than with a run of special editions, then?

“Twenty years is a significant milestone but it’s not the finish line. Together with our partners and our customers, we can work to cultivate the next generation of sports car enthusiasts and create even greater fusion in the next 20 years, and beyond,” commented Jens Puttfarcken, President and CEO of Porsche China.

This week during Auto Shanghai 2021, Porsche unveiled the 911 Turbo S Porsche China 20th Anniversary Edition you see here. The company has taken its most powerful offering and given it a smattering of exciting visual cues from the company’s in-house upfitters, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Available in Gulf Orange, Rubystar, Mint Green, Viola, and Oslo Blue, the idea here is to throw back to some of the most iconic and eye-catching 911 colors of all time. There are scads of Anniversary badges inside the car and out, plus a special striping package with a 20 prominent on the door.

If you want to go fast and look flash, and you live in China, there’s hardly a better way to do it than with one of these amazing 911 Turbo S models. Of course, they don’t come cheap. The standard 911 Turbo S will run you 2.34 million Yuan Renminbi (about $362,000), but the fancy 911 Turbo S Porsche China 20th Anniversary Edition is a whopping 3,114,500 Yuan Renminbi, which translates to about $480,250 at current exchange rates.

Of course you can’t buy one of these in any market but China. Maybe someday one of these will hit the major collector auctions for a mint, but until then you’ll have to stick with your boring regular 992 Turbo S. Maybe opt for the PTS option, because these things sure do look cool in Rubystar.
