Porsche Claims 4 of the Top 10 Mecum Auction Results in Monterey, Including a New World Record!

It wasn’t that long ago that a record was set for the highest price ever paid for a Porsche at auction during the Gooding and Co auction on Amelia Island. This past weekend in Monterey, that record was smashed! Among a number of historic and significant racing Porsches, the 1972 Porsche L&M 917/10 Spyder stood apart. Billed as the “world’s most recognized Porsche 917” this particular Porsche was driven by both Mark Donohue and George Follmer taking 1st at 5 of 9 races in the 1972 Can-Am series.

As the car that earned Porsche their first Can-Am Championship, this Porsche 917 sold for $5,500,000. If you can’t see the video below simply jump to 1972 Porsche 917/10 Sells for $5,500,000 to view it directly on the PorschePurist web-site.
