A good attitude is required to enter this exclusive motoring club

The Good Vibes Breakfast Club is a super exclusive new club for automotive enthusiasts, many of whom happen to drive Porsches. By exclusive I mean everyone is welcome to come, but you have to be willing to drive your car, have fun with it, and bring a good attitude. You have to #RespectTheCrest. There is no entry fee for this club, and you don’t even have to drive a Porsche to be part of the fun. You just have to be willing to get up at the crack of dawn on a Friday and trek your ass up to Newcomb’s Ranch on the Angeles Crest Highway north of LA.

What started as a few pals hauling coffee and doughnuts up the mountain to this secluded parking lot for a couple hours of no cell service and titular good vibes, has blossomed into a massive gathering of cars and acquaintances all the way up at 5,340 feet above sea level. While the cars have lost a significant portion of their horsepower due to the thinner air at altitude, the camaraderie hasn’t thinned at all. Everyone that arrives has a good time, and you’re likely to catch at least one car celebrity spotting at each week’s gathering. Sometimes it’s Magnus Walker, sometimes it’s a scad of Motor Trend contributors, and sometimes it’s someone with real name recognition.

This week we managed to ditch work for a single day while in Los Angeles to run up the mountain and see everyone. Wouldn’t you know it, our pal Jeff Zwart was there in his gorgeous yellow 1970 911T. That fella knows a thing or two about driving up a mountain road, you know? He was in good spirits as per usual, and totally brought the good vibes.

While the gathering isn’t really billed as a car show, rather a gathering of like-minded enthusiasts of having fun, it always turns into a stellar cars and coffee-style show up and show out. This week’s star of the gathering was a Volvo wagon with a roll cage replacing the rear seats, backed up by a gorgeous (and stupid fast) Emotion Engineering-built 991 GT3 RS with a scad of Cup car components. There’s pretty much something for everyone, even the two-wheeled fans like myself. Whatever you’re into, you’ll find something totally rad at the GVBC. If you’re in the area on a Friday morning, go check it out. But bring a good attitude and a car that puts a smile on your face.
