This Is The Crash That Took The WeatherTech 911 Out of Le Mans

The WeatherTech racing team couldn’t catch a break at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. First, one of the their three drivers, Cooper MacNeil, became too sick to drive. Then, Cooper’s backup, Gunnar Jeannette, was ruled ineligible to drive due to lack of the requisite number of night practice laps. This resulted in Leh Keen and Marc Miller deciding to give the race a go with just the two of them. A Herculean task for sure, but a challenge they were up for.

Unfortunately, just 4.5 hours into the race, Miller got caught behind another Porsche that was “dumping radiator fluid on the track” at the entrance to the Dunlop Curves. “Its a fifth gear down to fourth [slowdown]. The car went away so fast. Once you go through fluid you are not stopping. I did everything I could really to try and get the car back to the pits, said Miller. I took parts off the car and put it inside the car.” This was the result.

Fortunately, Miller was okay. Unfortunately, the crash took the 911, and the WeatherTech team, out of the race…

  • At Jalopnik's 24 Hours of Le Mans party we were supposed to have a skype call with Marc Miller at the end of this stint. Fortunately Marc was okay, though we were unable to have our call with him because he was busy being poured over by doctors following the accident.

    • After watching the replay a few times it was a much harder shunt then originally thought. We were all glad to hear he was okay!

      How was the Jalop party?
