The Velocity Channel’s “Overhaulin'” Will Feature Their First Porsche Build Ever Tomorrow Night

Velocity Channel is home to a number of my regularly watched shows including Chasing Classic Cars, What’s My Car Worth, and OVERHAULIN’. If you’re not familiar with OVERHAULIN’, it features Chip Foose (the father of the modern hot rod) and his iconic designs. As much as I like OVERHAULIN’ it’s almost exclusively American Muscle. However, this week, tomorrow night in-fact, OVERHAULIN’ will feature its first ever Porsche in the form of a 1962 356. While the promo video below suggests it will get the “full Foose treatment” the work is actually done in conjunction with Rod Emory of Emory Motorsports and uses parts from our friends at Stoddard.

If you won’t be home to watch, be sure to set your DVR for this Tuesday, July 29, at 9pm ET /8pm CT to catch Overhaulin’ featuring their first ever Porsche build!

  • For the first time ever I hated what Chip did with an Overhaulin project. The changes made the 356 look like a 911 with a vw back window slapped in. I'm glad the owner liked it. If it had been mine I would have been really upset.

    • Glenn, I completely agree. While it's not the first time I haven't liked something Chip has done, I was hoping for and expecting something quite different. It would have been nice to see more of the car, too.

      • As a Porsche (stock only) owner, it was painful to see that oval window go in. In fact, I thought I heard the husband say that the wife likes the car stock. I was hoping that Chip and the gang were going to do their best to bring it back to stock, including the wheels. I have often wondered if they precoordinate the mods in case the owner wants to keep the car stock/restored...

    • I happen to respectfully disagree. The finished product may not be your cup of tea, but the work done appeared to be up to the Foose crew's standard level of work. I admit was taken aback by the use of the VW oval window (and pity that an intact early VW oval was sacrificed), and it wasn't necessary to emphasize the relationship of early Porsches to Volkswagens, but as they mentioned at the end of the program, the original car was a substantial mess under the paint and bondo. There are many more better examples to bring back to pristine original condition, so using a ratty example for an outlaw is okay by me.

I also agree with Pepper Girl that it would have been nice to see more of the car. The Overhaulin' camera crew spends too much time showing Chris mugging for the camera and very little time showing the end result in any episode. While the feel-good stories are pleasant enough, folks watching the show are car nuts. In this case, there was almost nothing of the finished work at the back of the car. Compare the glimpses you saw of the finished back window to the amount of time you saw of the exhaust system.

  • I think they should of let Mr Emory let him design more of Porsche....he the best when comes to 356 outlaws
AND they should never chopped the oval and forget about that interior suck! sorry

    • Nothing to be sorry about. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and I for one agree with most of it.
