The Petersen Museum’s Porsche Exhibit Is Educational For Lovers of Any Marque

Chances are, if you’re reading this site, you’re pretty knowledgeable of the history of Porsche, how they became the company they are today, and can recite most of their greatest hits from memory. For some people who have never had the proclivity for the brand, for whatever reason, The Petersen Museum’s Porsche Effect exhibit could be incredibly educational. By attending this exhibit and learning more about Porsche and its history, new fans can be born in an afternoon. This is shown to great effect in the newest release from Hoonigan, in which members of the team attend the opening of the exhibit and pick up a few kernels of knowledge along the way.

The great thing about Hoonigan is their wide variety of automotive tastes, with team members that love everything from drifting to hot rods and off roading. Team head Brian Scotto is already a Porsche fanatic, so it was a bit surprising that they sent a few members of the crew to the exhibit launch who knew comparatively little about Porsche. It soon became clear that this made for far more entertaining viewing. Watching these guys learn about Porsche’s Le Mans-conquering 917 and its flat-twelve engine, or about the 935 and it’s inauspicious 911-chassis beginnings, is a truly awesome experience.

These are life long automotive enthusiasts like you or me

These are people who have built their entire career around cars and how they work. The fact that they can continue to learn new and cool stuff about a previously unfamiliar marque is inspiring. It just goes to show that you should never stop learning, and you should never assume anyone is lesser than you because they aren’t as entrenched in a specific culture as you are. Don’t stop people at the gate of Porsche fanaticism to ask them how devoted they are. Welcome people into the fold and teach them everything you know. You never know what they might know that you could learn from them.

Outside of any of that, this video is cool to watch, if only to see what awesome stuff The Petersen has sitting around for their year-long Porsche exhibit. If you can, plan a trip down to see it yourself. Where else are you going to get to see race winners, historically significant street cars, and rare pieces of the brand’s past all in one place? Outside of the factory museum in Germany, that is…
