It was just under a year-a-go that Adam Carolla jumped head first into the Porsche market with the purchase of the ex-Paul Newman Le Mans’ class winning 935 during the 2016 Gooding & Co auction in Monterey. While Carolla is no stranger to ex-Paul Newman race cars (it’s reported he owns the largest collection of them in the world) this was his first foray into vintage Porsche race cars and boy did he choose a excellent one.

- 1979 class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Newman at the wheel (co-drivers were Rolf Stommelen and Dick Barbour).
- 1980 This very same 935 became known as the infamous “Apple Car” sponsored by Apple Computers.
- 1981 Won the 24 Hours of Daytona
- 1983 Won the 12 Hours of Sebring

Gooding reported the sale at $4,840,000 (including the buyer’s premium). A pretty hefty price for a 935. In fact, Adam ultimately put his five (5) vintage Lamborhinis up for sale in order to finance the purchase.
It’s good to see this Porsche back on the track
When we first published the history on this Porsche, and then reported on its eventual sale to Carolla, we mentioned how much we hoped to see the 935 back on the track. Well, now we get to. In the video above you can watch as Adam takes the Porsche out on track for the first time in a lead-follow session, at Sonoma Raceway, with none other than Bruce Canepa. Is Adam preparing for a possible run in the Monterey Historics or perhaps the next Rennsport Reunion? We don’t know for sure, we’re just glad to see him having fun with it.

It's been at Canepa for Monterey Historics prep. Canepa listed it as one of the cars they'll have in their pits this year in their newsletter.
