Video: Gunnar Jeannette Flogs A Gulf Porsche 908/3 At Laguna Seca

Have you seen enough Monterey Motorsport Reunion onboard videos yet? We’ve already shown you some onboards from Patrick Long, Leh Keen, and Bruce Canepa, so how about Gunnar Jeannette driving the Revs Institute’s Gulf-liveried Porsche 908/3? The track doesn’t change from those other videos we’ve shown, but the surrounding cars do, and the shift points do, and the engine sound does. Oh man, that Porsche flat-8 engine is sublime. If you can listen to that without welling up with tears just a little bit, you might be dead inside.

The best part of this video is just how many camera angles they’ve got to work with here. There are half a dozen different views, and they cycle through all of them, it’s great. If they hadn’t added all of that weight in GoPro cameras, they might well have won the race outright. Really, though, when are you going to get the opportunity to ride along on the back of a 908/3 looking at the suspension and driveshafts do their job? That view alone is worth the price of admission. Oh, this is a free video? Usually to see videos this exciting costs extra. Awesome!

One thing to watch for is when Gunnar puts a lap on Jeff Zwart’s 906, pay attention to how quickly the gap develops. It’s amazing how far Porsche advanced in their prototype racing cars in just a few short years. Spectacular video, and well worth watching.
