Earlier this month PCNA announced that they had beat a long standing sales records with their 2012 deliveries. At the time we knew that Porsche AG was having a record year as well. We just didn’t know how big of a record. Well, last night, Porsche AG announced they had increased sales above last year’s record by 18.7% to 141,075 customer deliveries.
The United States was the most successful single market in 2012 with 35,043 Porsches delivered (an increase of 20.7%) with China a close second at 31,205 new Porsches delivered.
The seventh generation of the 911 Carrera sports car (the 991) enjoyed a very successful first year in 2012 and achieved the greatest growth with 31.4%: a total of 25,475 vehicles were sold. The Boxster achieved sales of 9,253 units, an increase of 29.1% compared to the prior year. While the Porsche model most in demand worldwide was, not surprisingly, the Cayenne with 74,763 units going to customers in 2012 (+24.8%).
Porsche CEO says Target of 200,000 Porsches in a Year Might be Reached Before 2018
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal Deutschland Chief Executive Office Matthias Mueller said, “We will probably reach the sale of 200,000 already before 2018.” “It wouldn’t surprise me, if we reached this in 2015 or 2016,” Mr. Mueller added.
Wow! Many thought the target was too aggressive when it was first announced. Now it seems like maybe it wasn’t aggressive enough. Porsche is relying heavily on the upcoming Macan. Mr. Mueller said he expects annual sales of the smaller SUV of at least 50,000!
