Porsche caught readying the electric 718 Boxster

If you are reading this thinking, “there has been a lot of spy shots lately” you’d be correct. Porsche is quickly working on developing and shipping several new high-profile vehicles. Today, the spy photographers caught what will ultimately be the 2025 electric Porsche 718 Boxster. That’s right, the next Boxster is all-electric.

Of course, we already knew that was coming, but here is photographic proof that development is well underway. This prototype is likely powered by a single motor, rear-drive setup from the Mission R electric concept. If it uses the rear motor from that concept, that means there is 625 horsepower available on tap. Also there’s likely a 2-speed PDK gearbox like on the Taycan.

Porsche boss Oliver Blume said back in March, “by the middle of the decade, we want to offer our mid-engine 718 sports car exclusively in an all-electric form.” Now we get to check it out. While it definitely looks like a 718 Boxster, it appears to be sharing a front and rear bumper with the Mission R. Or, at least, some of the design elements from it. Aero will be extremely important to maximize range without having a ridiculous heavy battery. We don’t have any idea how much this car will weigh, but we do know this car will have batteries from Porsche’s partnership with Cellforce Group.

Other than that? We don’t know much yet. The Porsche Taycan is a fun car, but an electric Boxster will have a lot to live up to. Expect to see it on the streets for the 2025 model year.
