A pit crew has to work like a well oiled machine, and each member of the over-the-wall crew has to know exactly where to be and when to be there. In order to gain those precious seconds on the competition, everyone on the crew has to be inch-perfect. Each of the members of the crew has to know every inch of this Porsche GT America as though it were the proverbial back of their hand.
In this video, Henrique Cisneros walks us through all of the steps involved in perfecting the stop. From the fueler to the tire changers, everyone’s job is important, and must get done quickly and safely. We take an interesting look at the safety precautions involved in a stop, including the grounding wire attached to the car to prevent static shock igniting fuel, and the fire suppressant bottle poised and ready to go off should it be needed. Everyone works in synchronicity, as there is a place for everything and everything must be in place before the car roars out of the lane.
An interesting aspect of the stop is the precautionary measures taken to ensure further stops are not needed. In the video, we see entire doors being changed, and there is mention made of suspension and brake checks being made during wheel changes. While everything has to work in a synchronized fashion, if something is awry, the team members all have to be ready to adapt to the needs of the situation at hand. Adaptive, yet rapid, is the name of the game.
