Here are the five coolest Porsches on Bring A Trailer right now

Over the last few years Bring A Trailer has been a haven for people seeking interesting and rare Porsches, and that’s a result of the site having listed over 13,000 Porsches or Porsche-related ephemera auctions. Heck, there are currently eighty Porsche auctions live on that site right this very minute. Here are just a few of the highlights. We put together a list of five interesting and rare Porsches on the auction site right now that you should buy. You know, if you have a lot of spare money rolling around in your Scrooge McDuck-esque vault. Heck, if you’re building a collection of Porsche rarities, you could do a lot worse than these five right here.

1. 964 Carrera 4 Leichtbau

When it comes to rarities, it doesn’t get much more rare than the Leichtbau. One of just 22 examples built by the factory, this Carrera 4 was built as a factory rally prototype with a seam-welded chassis, aluminum hood and doors, fiberglass decklid, whale-tail spoiler, and an external oil door reminiscent of those found on 1972 911s. This car was about 800 pounds lighter than a standard Carrera 4. This example has only been driven about 45 miles, which is absolutely a crime. It is located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

2. 993 Supercup 3.8

I mean, come on. It’s a race car. What’s not to like?

This is one of just 216 Supercup built between 1994 and 1997. The Supercup was effectively a Carrera RS with the big rear wing added on, plus aluminum hood, lightweight doors, thin rear glass, and lexan rear quarter windows. Plus, you know, the entire interior stripped and caged in preparation for going toe-to-toe with a dozen others on race tracks all over the world. This car has been raced about 15,000 miles worth, and has been extensively restored since 2005, appearing at the most recent Rennsport Reunion. If you’ve been looking for something to make you the coolest dude at your next PCA track event, this might be it.

3. 964 Speedster

Just 936 964 Speedsters were built between 1992 and 1994, and I just think these are the coolest of all the speedster variants. These don’t have much in the way of special racing-inspired this or lightweight-that, but they do have a cut down windshield and fiberglass humps to cover the back when the top is down. It’s just the single coolest looking 964 ever built, and that’s good enough for me. This example has been driven just 9,000 miles, so make sure if you buy this that you actually drive it, because it is—after all—a car. This one is located in West Los Angeles.

4. 996 GT3 RS

Maybe one of the best driving Porsches of all time, the original GT3 RS is also an extremely rare one. Only 682 examples were built, and none of them were sold in the U.S. market. This example was originally sold to Norway, and has been imported to the U.S. on Show and Display regulations due to its rarity. As a homologation special, this car features a lot of race car parts, including a half-cage installed at the factory, and advanced track aero, as well as an 8100 RPM Mezger flat six delivering 355 horsepower. These have been climbing in value aggressively over the last couple of years. The last GT3 RS on Bring a Trailer was bid to 251,000 and did not sell. This one is located in Haiku, Hawaii. I honestly can’t imagine a worse car for Hawaii. I guess Maui at least has some decent driving roads.

5. 968 Club Sport

This is definitely the least expensive of the five cars listed here, but it might well be my favorite. For one thing, it has color-matched wheels, and that goes a long way. The 968 Club Sport was another one of those track-oriented Porsches you hear so much about, and while it wasn’t really a homologation special, it did serve really well at the track with a balanced f/r weight ratio, reduced weight, limited slip differential, lower suspension, and 17″ cup wheels. This is also the least rare of the five with 1900 examples built, but just look at that Speed Yellow bodywork. Isn’t it the coolest?
